which version of windows is best for gaming

I guess that would be Windows 10 since DirectX 12 will be important for newer games.
So far all my games which worked on W7 and W8.1 work on Windows 10 too so I don't see any reason to stick with an older OS.

Depends on the games. Most games are faster with Windows 7 or 8.1, while still a lot are faster with Windows 10. But you also need to take into account that Windows 10 was rushed out, many things are unfinished and even drivers still dont work very well. So its most likely going to improve.
Also DirectX 12 games will be released in a few months and only Windows 10 supports DirectX12.
So for the future I doubt gamers will be able to avoid Windows 10, even though its sucking up your private data as if MS are now a division of the NSA.

In my opinion Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.
Windows 7 is the most stable and useful for gaming. IMO.

I went from windows 7 to windows 10, I can honestly say that windows 10 is awesome! All my games run on it

No reason to point the user towards a far more expensive OS, when Home for 1/2 the price works just the same.

I find Windows 8.1 or Windows 7 the best ones for gaming atm, since Windows 10 isn't optimized for everything yet. I had a few problems running CS:GO, Dirty Bomb and so on.

What ever windows you decide to go with, if you have 8GB RAM, make sure it is a 64 bit windows, thought I just add that

Windows 8.1 is the best is for gaming because I checked watch dogs in windows xp and in vista and on windows 7 64 bit ultimate it worked better in the awindows 7 is my pc specs are 4 gb ram,core 2 duo processor,nvidia gt 610 gpu it is very low specs but I played in low graphic and now just before two days I installed windows 8.1 and run the watchdogs game I worked awesome in this is than other even I played it in minimum graphic with good fps and all
