Hi Tom's hardware,

I have seen so many news & views abouts dx 12 gaming performance for gtx 1060 & rx 480. What I saw in the dx 12 gaming performance was, the rx 480 significantly ahead of gtx 1060. I have also seen, why rx 480 performs faster on dx12.Amd cards are really great for dx 12 gaming. So which will be the better choice for future gaming of dx 12????

Thank you.

Solution

actually that's not always the case. Forza for example GTX1060 actually are quite significantly ahead of RX480. AMD card gain more in DX12 is because of async compute that will increase their gpu utilization. from the looks of it nvidia does not have problem to fully utilize their gpu even in DX11. and the most important thing is not all games going...
Depends
Developers are still optimizing gpus so its hard to say
Also depends on your budget
The rx 480 is currently out of stock - $200-240 depending if you get the 8gb or 4gb

I am thinking about three GPU right Now, Those are-

1.R9 390x (DX 12 performance is superb) Price-$400(in our Country)
2.RX-480 (8gb reference) Price-$325 (in our country)
3.GTX-1060 (MSI or Zotac) (not available in our country, May be price will be $ 350-370)

which GPU should I buy regarding DX 12 future gaming ???? My Budget is $437.5

The question was for DX 12 :)

read again, bolded it for you

Oh, I see :)
But anyway the RX 480 is faster in DX 12 XD
But we will see if for long 😛

2% is nothing, so no they are equal in dx12

the 1060 is a LOT faster in all current dx11 games though

and since most 480's are way overpriced right now the better buy is the 1060

It's overpriced, because it just got released. That means the prices should drop down, and I'd go for the RX 480 :)
Even to I'm more of an Nvidia fan >.>

The only thing that tempts me to Nvidia over AMD that is not in the benchmarks is I do feel Nvidia are significantly faster at releasing updated drivers for newly released games. I like to buy newly released games though, I know some will wait for price drops so this wouldn't affect them.

that is silly

right now the 1060 is the best buy, dont give excuses XD

Most of the DirectX 12 games out right now are AMD sponsored titles, which makes it hard to guess what performance will be like in the future. No doubt, there will be plenty of DirectX 12 games to be released that favor Nvidia cards and take advantage of Nvidia's exclusive graphics features. Overall, the GTX 1060 is the better card.

Rx 480 is cheaper than 1060. 390x is a very good card but has a heavy power draw and does not support VSR (virtual super resolution). So go with the rx 480 if you want a 8gb gpu for less money. But 1060 is better on dx11 games and rx 480 on dx12 games. The choice is yours..

ok XD

For now rx480 and 470 are dominating the midrange market because they are future proof GPUs, gtx1060 is gud for dx11 but next year u have to buy new gtx, back in 2012 amd radeon cards have been improved to new architecture GCN and Mantle, gaming industry is aiming now on towards vulkan API which been built upon Mantle, about nvidia cards im very pessimistic on their future because 1.5 year old gtx970 is so much irrelevant for nowadays in dx12 n some dx11 titles, how nvidia tricks its consumers are very obvious for instance look at their color compression settings in default, they compressed so much colors that pics look like cold weather, for long time they didn't change GPU architecture, what they improve on are TFLOPS and memory, the reason why gtx 1060 sucks in dx12 because it was last minute response to rx480, where they couldn't have time to do their homework on dx12 n vulkan, so go for rx480 Sapphire or if u got some extra just get gtx1070 zotac version

so much wrong assumption in this post. the color compression for example did not affect the final image quality. it is bandwidth saving related issue. this color issue has been long issue that has been debated to pulp. realitically there is no difference between AMD and nvidia when it comes to color quality just that AMD look more vibrant because they were using higher color saturation by default.

also nvidia cards are not necessarily bad when it comes to vulkan and DX12. just that with these low level API AMD card finally able to utilize their raw power more because of async compute. just look at RX480 and GTX1060. look at the raw performance between the two.

RX480: 5.1Tflops
GTX1060: 3.85Tflops

looking at raw power alone RX480 should be 32% faster than GTX1060. but why in general (most DX11 games) GTX1060 still end up being faster? this is AMD problem. and sadly from now on not all games going to use DX12. heck DX12 does not even replacing DX11. looking that almost all DX12 title are being sponsored it seems that most developer try to avoid DX12 if possible.

DX12 makes up a very tiny percentage of games that are out there. The ones that are out, many are broken games and the DX12 version actually plays worse than DX11. Will that be fixed? Most likely.

Will it be fixed by next week? No.

It'll take several years for the API, drivers and developers to all be in sync and iron out the kinks. By that time, your $250 gpu will have already become obsolete. Something with greater performance for relatively less money would have come along.

The dumbest thing people say in the world of PCs and gaming is "future proof". Complete utter stupidity.

Developing games is a multi million dollar endeavor. The last thing they would want to do is code and release a game under an api that's buggy as fcuk and could result in a horrible backlash from the market.

Heck if GTA 6 were to come out in DX10, performs and looks better than DX11... I could care less. All I want is a silky smooth game that's enjoyable and doesn't crash.

Even if a game was in DX38 and it runs like shit... who would want it.
