Which will perform better for games?

Going to have access to either a tower with an Athlon II x2 220 + 8600 GTS running 1600x900 resolution

or

laptop i5-520m w/ integrated running 1440 x 900

This is only temporary for during a move. Just curious which set up will run games smoother in your opinions

I'm going with the desktop. Integrated graphics are just poop.

Agreed. Go with the desktop. You'll probably get roughly GT 520M performance which is still better than an i5s IGPU from 2011.
