I just finished building my second PC. The first, while still working, lost two of three memory slots, FWIW. Any way, I'm at the point where I need to decide which flavor of Windows to install. (The old PC is going Ubuntu.)
Here are the specs:

ARCTIC COOLING ACF64LP 60mm CPU Cooler for low profile PC
Kingston HyperX 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 Desktop Memory Model KHX8500D2/2G
Rosewill RP550V2-S-SL 550W ATX12V v2.01 SLI Ready Power Supply
Rosewill R5605-BK 0.8mm Japanese Cold Rolled Steel Front Mesh Design Dual 120mm Fans ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5400 Brisbane 2.8GHz Socket AM2 65W Dual-Core black edition Processor Model ADO5400DSWOF
GIGABYTE GA-MA770-UD3 AM2+/AM2 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard
Hitachi Deskstar 500 GB SATA HD
Samsung SATA DVD Double layer burner

I don't game but I do like to keep my PCs for a long time. (My dying PC has an Athlon 64 3000 if that give you any idea of how long.)

So, should I load XP, live dangerously and load Vista (32 or 64?) or wait for Win7 (32 or 64?)?

I'm running Vista 64 bit right now.... It's stable for the most part. At this point, I don't see much of a point in installing XP, unless you have any form of compatibility issue with any of your software.
