Which would be better Windows 8.1 with i3 or Windows 7 with i5. My main computer use is the internet and Microsoft Office programs. Long story, but these are my only choices.
8.1 is more fluent and is not windows 8. I never see metro in 8.1, you get the options of the start button and the search bar, and it is overall just more fluid. The i3 is fine for what you'll be doing. No need for an i5.
I would get the i5 and upgrade it to windows 8.1 or windows 10 preview depending on what I was doing. Always best to go with the best CPU and hardware, very easy to change the software
