Which would be better?

I got a new comp for Christmas, a Compaq P4 1.7GHz 512mb SDRam, GForce 2 MX. I was wondering, which would be better, to upgrade to a RDram mobo, or to replace my GPU with like a Raedon 7500 / 8500 / Geforce 4 Ti 4200? Also, is a Raedon 7500 comparable to like one of the better Gforce 2's or what?

Because Compaq sold him a crappy computer?

The video card is holding you back more than the CPU+motherboard.
Is the CPU socket 478?

I have absolutely no idea what kind of socket the mobo is. Do you know how I can find out? It's not really that crappy for the price, only cost like $1000

For $1000, I guarantee you can build a better P4 system yourself.

The easiest way to tell is to open up the case and see if the heatsink clips on like normal, or has the new brackets that hold it down. Former is socket 423, latter is 478.
