As the title says above which would be better for my system and or Intel, I am not bias and will not listen to someone that shuts down one or the other (try to be as non bias and no arguments or they will be reported). My fiance does light gaming and some school work and listens to music surfs the web ect. I was either going with an I5/I7 for hers or an and fx 8350 or higher. Mine will be used for ripping dvd's so we can stream them to our Xbox 360, encoding music, playing games, and encoding videos (less time the better). I was looking at either a FX 95xx or I7 49xx depending. What's your opinions? And as stated above this is a serious inquiry and arguements will not be tolerated. We are adults after all.

Hello ddbtkd456. I will give my 2 cents of what I am running. I originally had a Intel core i5 3570k which I gave my wife for her to have her own desktop built. She games here and there and uses it on a normal day to day basis. I paired it up with a AMD HD 7850 2gb video card.

When I had that CPU, I paired it up with my PNY Nvidia GTX 770 2gb OC. To be completely honest, my computer ran fine for a lot of games. I was able to max out a lot of games and not have any issues. As you can tell, I game on a regular.

So since I gave my wife my old parts and setup, I purchased a AMD FX 8350. Now, the CPU is not bad. People that tell you AMD is better or Intel is better is honestly just boy toy fans for that company. I can tell you first hand...

So since I gave my wife my old parts and setup, I purchased a AMD FX 8350. Now, the CPU is not bad. People that tell you AMD is better or Intel is better is honestly just boy toy fans for that company. I can tell you first hand that the FX 8350 plays current games better than the Intel core i5 I had. The reason for this is because newer games are getting closer to utilizing the 8 cores on the AMD chip. Not saying that the i5 can't be used to do some hardcore gaming (cause I've done it), I switched to AMD because of the price. I got the chip for about $170 when it was on sale. So with all this being said, I will say its really up to you. Don't listen to what people out there tell you if they are those boy toy die hard fans for Intel/AMD.

I would say if you plan on doing encoding videos and other things that will utilize the 8 cores, I would say go for the AMD FX8350. The AMD FX 8350 will provide you with the ability to do the things you want. The Intel will also work with the normal day end usage, so its really up to you.

Just FYI. My wife gets better FPS on older games. I tested this because we play MMORPGs together. On Tera Online and Guild Wars 2, she hits higher FPS than I do. That could do with either things not being optimized for a certain card/chip or it could be because older games don't even come close to utilizing 8 cores. On newer games like Watch Dogs, my PC will have higher FPS than my wife's computer.

All I can say is, good luck! Hopefully I answered to the best that I can. Your best bet, do research. When I buy anything, not just electronics, I do extensive research and of course; PRICE MATCH!

Well the CPU choice for your PC doesn't really need a lot of debating. I wouldn't get either of the AMD's FX-9XXX CPUs, they're just overclocked FX-83XX chips that are priced considerably higher. This being the case, Intel would be the most sensible option. Even the i7-4790k could probably beat the FX-9XXX chips, and a six core i7-4930k (or higher) would absolutely murder all AMD FX CPUs.

For your fiance, I wouldn't recommend anything higher than a 4th gen i5, since she doesn't really seem to need the extra features of the i7 (mainly hyperthreading). Assuming you're from the US, the AMD FX-83XX chips would also make sense since they're a fair bit cheaper.

For comparison, the cheapest 4th gen i5 costs $185, while the FX 8320 costs $150 (the FX 8350 is really not worth it for $25 more IMHO). I would personally go for the AMD chip since it's cheaper, and both it and the i5 will perform fine based on your description of what your fiance likes to do on her PC.

I won't be purchasing any parts until black Friday or cyber Monday so hopefully there are some good savings this year.
