Hi, thanks for any help you might send my way. I'm looking to buy one of these LCD's :

ViewSonic
ViewSonic 2
ViewSonic 3
Samsung, my favourite so far

I play games from time to time but it's not my main use. Pretty casual stuff usually. I'm looking for a nice WS monitor, higher res are better obviously, looking to pay under $250 w/ shipping. Feel free to throw in any suggestions I might have missed.

Thanks!

thanks for the input. Is the difference big enough to justify 150% the price? I'm assuming yes since you say that would be your pick.

Money isn't that big of an issue, but for $300 it has to be worth it.

EDIT: the bigger resolution is a definite + since I play online poker and 1050 in height would be better than 900 for multi-tabling.

You have to ask yourself what are you looking for, response time, size, widescreen, etc.

I threw out the initial ones because you're basically paying for crap you won't use (the speakers) and it'll be in VGA instead of DVI. Somehow I doubt the Samsung's advertised 4 ms response time as compared to the Viewsonic 2035's 5 ms.

My rule of thumb for getting LCDs or anything for that matter that I know will have to last me a while is it's OK to spend a little extra to get something quality that'll last me that much longer so instead of spending 2 or 3 times the amount replacing a POS item, I get something nice that lasts.

There's the cheapest monitor that is widescreen above a 1440x900 resolution.

I see Sceptre for $240 at 1680 x 1050 but I'd only go Sceptre if I was a masochist and wanted to punish my eyes.

Like i said, I was going to suggest the 2025, but they don't have it anymore.

Again, thanks for the reply. Is there a big difference between the BenQ and the Viewsonic ? I assume you still recommend the Viewsonic over BenQ. Price difference if I fill the mail-in rebate is ~$50 (more expensive to ship for some reason).

What are some key differences? Image quality better with viewsonic?

Thanks.

Lets see, going down the list:

The Viewsonic has a better viewing angle, better contrast ratio, better response time, brightness is the same, uses less power, but weighs more.

I would go with Viewsonic because they are a display manufacturer and I trust their name more than Benq's name. The reviews I read on Benq products just make me want to keep them with Spectre's level and Hanns G and other off brands like that. Of course, I am a little biased since I got my vx922s for real cheap from newegg before they went up in price again. You pay for what you get.

For a net difference of 40 bucks (after rebate) the Viewsonic looks good to me... especially since this is going to last you at least 5 years (I hope).

Hey, sorry for keeping on asking questions lol but I've found the 2025 you seemed to talk about so much :)

VX2025WM

Is it a better choice than the 2035? Price is better obviously, but apart from that? I don't need speakers btw.

Also, is Fry's a reputable seller?

Thanks for all the time you've taken to answer me, it's appreciated.

Uh, yes, yes, and yes!

I trust Fry's. Fry's, Newegg, Amazon (for the most part), and Tanga/Woot, etc.

You're not paying for the speakers and it's an older model from what I can tell. The contrast ratio is a little worse, Viewsonic usually sets their monitors too bright anyway. Everything else is about the same - same res, same size, etc. Hmm, wait a minute, it says 800:1 contrast ratio first, then it says 500:1. Uhh, interesting.

For the record, I almost purchased a 2025, but I think it was price or out of stock which caused me to purchase a 2nd vx922.

Only downside to these style of monitors (and my 922s) is that you can only pivot on one plane, you can't rotate side to side or move the screen physically up and down.

The official website of viewsonic says 800:1. Fry's must be some kind of mistake (500:1).

VX2025WM it is then :) I'll order that in a week or so.

On a sidenote, what makes the 2025 > 2035 ? Other than the price being $40 lower (which would be made up by the mail-in rebate if I get to sending it) obviously :)

2025 doesn't have speakers and i think the 2035 is just a newer model.

I guess ideally, and if I $300 just to burn, I'd get a 2025 so I could do triple monitor mayhem with a vx922, 2025, and another vx922. Can you motorboat monitors? 😀

Well, I am going to go motorboat my 922s when I get back home. Merry Christmas!

I'm curious to know more about the difference between the 2025 and the 2035 as well. According to the Viewsonic website, the 2035 has a 5ms response time whereas the 2025 only has an 8ms response time. It would be nice if someone could test them or provide some kind of in-depth comparison.
