Want to reinstall xp to one of my computers. I have a couple of computers running XP. Don't know which xp disk goes with which pc. Don't want to have MICROSOFT tell me that I am running the same license on two computers - how can I tell which disk goes with each pc. In win98 I could look up the license # - but don't know what to do in xp. Help, please.
Thanks, Kat

The disks aren't important, only the licenses.

There may be a program around that retrieves license codes... but I don't know much about it.

There is also supposedly some "fingerprint" file burried in XP that, if saved and restored to the new installation, will allow you to bypass entering the lic. code, providing the hardware is the same... I'm sketchy on that as well

Sorry I can't help more.

It really does not matter which disk you use. What matters is the product key you use to install XP. So you can even use a friends disk aslong as you use your product key code to install XP.

I hope this answers your question
