Probably never? The point of an X2 card is to go above and beyond single-card performance. With the heat and other limitations of the X2 design, you won't see many 9600GX2 cards beating the 9800GTX IMO, which would be a waste of time for NVidia. GX2 cards have always been designed to be the top-dog and a 9600GX2 just wouldn't be it.

I agree totally with leo2kp. ATI tried it with the X1650 cards which were midrange and i never did see one listed anywhere for sale. Dont know if they acctually released it or if it just didnt make the UK.

its a good contender when pited with 3850 x2, since in the sli chart 9600gt beats even 9800gtx : http://www.guru3d.com/index.php?page=vga_1

+ to fully use the pcie 2.0 bandwith using sli combo in one card seems a good option in the moment, rather spend tons of cash in order to speed the R&D
++ its 150 $ card 😀
