Whistling sound coming from desktop

Not sure how to explain but there is a loud pitched sound coming from my system. At first I thought it was the cpu cooler however I replaced it back with my stock cooler and the sound still comes back. It's not always on but when it comes on the sound is consistent. Sometimes it goes away when I game for a little while.

Any ideas?

Probably a fan bearing or something rubbing possibly on a case fan, psu fan or GPU fan.

No, it is a much higher pitch and the sound remains constant instead of constantly changing.

Do you have any mechanical hard drives in your system? Anything other than the fans with moving pieces?

I have a solid state drive and a 1 tb WD hdd. I have unplugged all case fans to test them and ran without the hdd for a few hours the sound was still there.

With that barebones setup, is there any differentiation in where the sound is coming from with the side panel off? Just trying to narrow down the possible areas.

Seems to be coming from somewhere between the cpu slot and the top pci-express slot that my gpu is plugged into. I suppose the only fans that I havn't been able to test the GPU independently from the rest of the system.

What platform do you have? Any chance of removing the GPU altogether to use onboard graphics for a test run?

Definitely would try that but using fm3+ platform with an fx 4350 processor. So no onboard graphics.

Typically yes, but of course I gave a friend an old gtx 550 ti I had here about a month back. I'd ask to borrow it if it wasn't in another state ya know haha

Maybe try moving the GPU to the farthest slot possible from the CPU area. If the noise follows it, you know it's GPU.
