Hello!
I've just purchased a new 970 Msi motherboard to replace an old one that was causing issues sometimes. After installing, I checked the bios and everything seemed to be detected and in working order booting in Legacy+UEFI mode. I have 2 harddrives with windows 10 connected and 1 USB with windows setup. After selecting each of these, i get to a black screen with blinking white cursor which I've been told means that the system can't find anything to boot. I know for sure that all 3 of these partitions work since they worked with the previous motherboard.
My hunch is that I may have damaged the motherboard. During installation i noticed that the power connector for the CPU was an 8pin but I had been powering my CPU with a 4pin with the old board. I have a 6pin to 6+2pin converter I'm using to power my GTX 950, and it has 2 sets of cables so I figured it would be fine to use it to power the CPU. As soon as I tried to power it on the cable going to the CPU was smoking and melted. I immediately turned off the power and unplugged the cable. I read somewhere here that you can use a 4pin in an 8pin slot, so now i'm using my old 4pin to power the CPU which seems to work fine. Which is what brings me to the point I am now.
So finally, I guess the real question here is: Is it possible that I damaged my motherboards ability to find things to boot from by frying a power cable going to the CPU?
