I've recently started building my first computer and a while ago I noticed white marks next to all standoff holes. Does this mean my motherboard is dead. Please help!

Solution
then it probably is just scratches, and nothing to worry about. that standoff issue may have forced you to maneuver awkwardly and/or apply additional force.

without that tab, or if the motherboard didn't have the rigid shielding over the i/o ports, it probably would have slid in like an oiled pig.
the marks could be a residue left from a cleaning process, or lack of cleaning. if the board is coated it could be the coating starting to peel, or the coating scratched by a previous installation, or the coating reacting to a cleaining agent.

none of which would indicate a failed motherboard. however, if its water staining you should clean it up.

you could try a non-silicone contact/electronics cleaner, you can get it at an electronics store, and clean it off with a lint-free cloth.

But this happened after installing the motherboard in the case. Do you still think it will be OK?

since very few motherboards ever had a coating, what your situation sujests, i would like to know your make and model. whether its new or used. and a picture would help too. i cannot view most photosharing sites at work, but i expect that someone here can an would know what they are looking at.

but i would think that if you powered it up, all would be fine. if not, there is always warranty...

My motherboard is a sabertooth z77 and I bought it new. I can't give you a great photo because I can't get my motherboard out (here's a link to the question I posted:http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-1727747/middle-standoff-c70-case.html . THe thing is that I still don't have my psu so I can't test it.
They are baisicallyj just shortish white lines (I would say scratches) along the back of the motherboard leading to the holes for the standoffs. I would assume that they were caused by the rubbing of the standoffs. Thanks for being so helpull, I really appreciate it!:)

Thanks, I noticed a while ago that the "scratches" were actually archs over the standoff holes, that they all were oriented in different directons and that they looked way to regular to be scratches (except for the middle one that actually did seem life a scratch). That would imply that they weren't caused by me putting the motherboard in place. Thanks again for being so helpfull!
