Question White plastic CPU protection?

Ok so I didn't build my PC, because I do not know many things about hardware so they put all parts in for me in one sort of "store" let's say, not the one I bought those parts from though.

I don't know much about hardware, only software.

I've been monitoring temps, and they have been 70-80C (on 50-70% load) which is a lot, so I started wondering.

I saw under the cooler there was a white plastic protection on top of the CPU, should I remove this?

CPU: i7 8700k
COOLER: HYPER 212 EVO
MOBO: GIGABYTE Z370P D3

The only thing that should be between the CPU and your heatsink is thermal paste.

I meant that nothing else should be there by the time you've installed it. I don't know exactly how a 8700k or 212 Evo is packaged, but if there was a layer of plastic on the bottom of the cooler or the top of the CPU you should take it off.

It is like a square or something on top of cpu.

Did you mean cpu socket cover? Obviously that has to be removed too.

However the hyper 212 may not be big enough for a 8700k, and that could cause these high but not super unreasonable temps.
