Who can search lost laptop

My laptop was stolen and i was wondering if there is any way if i can track it down. i know the serial number and mac address and stuff i just need to know if there is any way i can track it down.

Without some sort of software on the computer specifically designed to "phone home" then no. Best you can do is report the theft to the authorities and hope for the best.

As said, without tracking software, nope. Besides, most people bring laptops to get wiped right away or wipe them themselves if they are smart enough so any tracking software gets wiped anyways.

I run a shop and the people that come in with a laptop, without knowing the password and don't have a power adapter and want it wiped, are probably usually stolen. I won't do anything on a laptop without an adapter anyways as the battery can die anytime during an install, updates, etc, and usually when I tell them, go get the adapter and the password for me, they never come back but I'm sure they find someone sooner or later that will use a multi-adapter and not care about the password or use a tool and remove it, but I don't deal with them. I can't prove it's stolen but I rather not deal with it at all and get involved. I remove the password to get it, connect to my internet, the tracking software tracks it back to me.

The monetary value of the laptop lost sucks, but the data on the computer may be much more valuable. I would recommend a lock be placed on your credit report. At a minimum follow your credit report closely for a while.
