I just got a stack of cash for Xmas (a little over $1000) and I'm going to build a new computer. I, of course, have my opinions on what is best and such, but I'm wondering what kind of machine you people out there would build. This is what I'm thinking.

Since I already have extra case and hard drive:

T-bird 1Ghz
A7V
512 pc133
Geforce2 64meg
DVD-RAM drive

Along with the miscellany parts like floppy, keyboard, mouse, etc... it adds up to around $925 shipped.

Let me know what you think because I'm itching to start building again (I haven't had the money to build since I built my current p3-450 2 years ago).

Make sure you're using a good hard drive, as if you don't, it will slow down your system a lot.

I did consider DDR, but it just jacks up the price so dramatically that at this time I think its not worth it. Maybe in 6 months or so, but I cant wait that long.

Garia666, I'm not buying a PC, I'm building a PC... if you buy all the parts seperately and put it together yourself you can end up saving up to about 50% off buying a compaq or whatever.

Arrow, I'm using a Maxtor 40gig 7200 that I picked up at compusa for $100 last week... you think that will slow it down? It is ata66, you think I should go for an ata100?

Andrew, yes, I said DVD-RAM drive. I like my cd burner right now, but when I go through about 2 or 3 per day, I think that the extra expense is justified. I have an extra scsi card laying around (although its kinda old and crappy) I can grab a first gen 5.2 double sided RAM for just over $250 shipped and that sounds good to me... did you have a better suggeestion?

The price of DDR from Crucial isn't that much over SD (or none at all, forgot) last time I checked. But I don't know about the motherboards though.
