Who's buying AMD 6 core CPU's next month?

Three Phenom II X6 processors will become available in the second quarter of 2010: the 2.6GHz 1035T, the 2.8GHz 1055T, and the 3GHz 1075T. Pricing was leaked for the 1055T, which will be available for $199, while a previously unannounced 3.2GHz 1090T Black Edition will cost $295, or about the same as the quad-core Intel Core i7-930. According to DigiTimes, there’s another six-core AMD processor, the 1095T, that will become available in 4Q 2010.

I know that. I said I am waiting for Sandy Bridge or possibly till 22nm. Sandy Bridge is the earliest I will upgrade from my Q6600 (which means Bulldozer will be out around that time too so we can see whats better) and 22nm a year after that.

I am more excited about 22nm than Sandy Bridge or Bulldozer though. Should be a 3rd gen HK/MG and tons of improvements.

Well I was looking at the i7 930 or the cheaper i5 750 for their 8 thread use of the video/photo editing apps I use - BUT! I'm holding off for these AMD. Not just for AMD fans but for all power users, it's almost expected that their speed and performance will again beat Intel dollar for dollar. Obviously, gamers won't be as interested in these offerings as the photo/video editing hobbyists.

Not me. I don't see a point if you already own a Core i7. I'd buy one though if I had an AM3 system. The 1055T sounds awesome - a hexcore processor running at 2.8GHz with AMD's own Turbo Boost (I wonder what they'll call it - something like AMD Adrenaline... performance when you need it!) with the same TDP and cost as a Core i5 750. Amazing, lol.

Exactly my point. I don't want to invest in an i7 now when I can pick up an an AM3 mobo for less than half and then in a month or two plug in a 6 core and if my bet is right, the performance (with a little overclock) will be equal for nearly half or 2/3 the price. My last CPU purchase was the PII X4 955 BE C3 rev and it was my first AMD purchase in over 10 years. But now I'm starting to give AMD more attention, more respect for them being "for the people" and I'm starting to think I've been throwing hard earned cash down the toilet with overpriced Intel, just an opinion, not trying to rile up the fanboys.

Psssst.... I just saved a ton of cash! I switched my CPUs to AMD!

Not me. I'm waiting for the 32 nm die shrink of the i7-900's.

Until then, I'll just struggle along with my two 3.6 GHz C2Q systems.

Right now, my propus plodding along at 3.3 is sufficient to drive my 2x4850 xfire setup, which runs practically anything I throw at it at 1920x1080. I don't see the need to upgrade right now.

"Struggle"? lol

Top of the line quads OCed to 3.6 isn't struggling...1.5GHz celeron mobile trying to play 480p youtube videos is "struggling"

I'm okay with my Q9400 OC's to only 3.2 GHz 🙁
I'm also okay with my X4 955BE MBOX OC'd to 3.8 Ghz
But unless you've edited 1080p HD video, you don't know what it's like to wish for 6 cores or 12 threads, not just wish for but also put to use in your everyday apps.

As I have to wait until the end of the year before I can build this new machine I guess I can afford to wait for benches:

980X vs 970 vs AMD 6-core

But to be honest as they're all based on the same architecture I can see AMD getting crushed again in the media creation benches, so I think already it's 980X for me IF the 970 doesn't overclock well - I build for 10 years life so I don't mind investing in the stupidly-priced 980X

Im waiting to see the perf differences with the new Zosma Phenom II's. Supposedly they are on the new E0 stepping, have a 2.4Ghz stock Hypertransport, and have that turbo boost feature. But I probably won't buy till bulldozer.

Sandy Bridge is going to be 32nm, every single Intel roadmap confirms that.

Since the "leaked" prices show AMDs 6-core to be less than $200, it's impossible to beat the Intel $1,000 CPU. What is possible is for AMD to start making new chipsets for mainstream dual or triple socket mobos or quadruple socket motherboards (not just for servers). Then that will level the playing field dolalr for dollar. Spend a grand for 5 of AMD's 6-core CPUs, plug them in to against one Intel CPU that cost a grand and see who wins., especially in the media creation benches.

panning on getting a 1035t atm, was planning on buying a whole new setup with ddr3 ram, but i came across a deal i cudnt resist (rig 1 in sig $230US) plan 2 sell the x4 940 and get a 1035T, 6 cores at 2.6, turbo boost to 3.1, initial reports say that the 1055t will b $200 which will hopefully land the 1035t snug in my arms for $150, format factory will love the xtra power for converting mkv files. But im gonna wait like a week or 2 after release, make sure there r no tlb errors : )

That wont happen. After AMDs last attempt, QuadFX which was a complete fail vs a Q6600, I doubt they will go that route. Instead they will go more towards adding more cores and a smaller process.

Besides, even though 5 6 core thubans would pound a 6 core Gulftown, the power usage would be insane. 5 x 125w TDP would not only be a hughe power draw, it would also be hot as hell and probably hard to keep cool unless you have your termostat set to 60F all the time.

I'm waiting for 32nm and beyond Intel Atom 😉. Wonder how well they'll undervolt. Hmm...

Just curious, what is your upgrade plan? Mine is use for 6-7 years before upgrade.

3-5 years. During that I normally do 1 CPU and maybe 2 GPU upgrades.

And I give my fiance whatever I had before. She still uses my P4 system.

It's not gonna happen. It was just wishful thinking because it's so unfair to compare a $200 CPU versus a $1,000.

However, the "match" can still happen, setup with a dual socket server mobo with two AMD Thubans versus one Intel Gulftown. and then run the media creation apps.
If I had the cash, I would do it myself.

I don’t really need a new pc, or need any extra power right now. I am tempted to buy just for that fact that I like building, and testing new stuff. It should perform well in game so I may build one that I can have fun playing with then give it to my gf; she has been talking about getting a new pc for gaming. I think I am just itching to buy something; it was so hard not to buy the $199 i7 at microcenter. So only time will tell lol.
