Why all my games became so laggy?

I would like to know if someone have an idea to help me. All my games (From "Super meat boy" to "Dirt 3") became laggy.

I've already played all these games without an issue but recently they all "lag".

The game can go well for 5-6 secondes then I get a "freeze" in picture for about half a second and my input seems to not be register in the game during this time.

I tried to run the game without any other program running in background and that didn't solve my problem.
I tried to format and that didn't solve my problem.

I don't know what to do now, and a lot of game become unplayable like this!

I play these game via STEAM.

GPU : GTX 260
CPU : E8400 (3.0Ghz core 2 duo)
RAM : 3 Gb of ddr 2

Check temperatures during lag with HWMonitor. You can download it from www.cpuid.com

Is your GPU driver version 306.23? That could be the culprit. I see a lot of people complaining about this.

Could it be steam doing this ?

@Sunious : Sorry I forgot to say that my GPU temp are OK.

@venjhammet : I'm with the 306.23 but I updated recently and the problem was there before.

@correon : I suspect Steam too because I noticed that all vidéo in steam store are laggy when not fullscreen. If I put them fullscreen the video are perfectly smooth.

Temps are OK? What numbers exactly are you getting?

When I run the benchmark in dirt3 the max temp of my gpu in HW monitor is 59C.

I don't think it's a temp issue because super meat boy is doing the same lag every couple second and it's not supposed to be a very taxing game.

Thanks for your help until now, hope we gonna find the problem.
