[SOLVED] Why am i getting low FPS in games with my gtx 1080?

I had a gtx 1060 with an amd ryzen 5 1600 but i kept getting low fps in games i should be getting much higher, im getting 40-50 fps in borderlands 2, far cry 3, fallout 4 ect. I just got a gtx 1080 but my FPS is still the same in every game, is their something wrong with my cpu? Is there a setting in the nivida control panel that can fix this? I looked it up and the amd ryzen 5 1600 shouldnt bottleneck the 1080 and i should be getting much higher fps.

disable vsync, make sure drivers are up to date for CPU and GPU.

Make sure your settings in nvidia control panel are not interfering. Quite often i forget i have vsync triple buffer enabled there and i spend an hour swearing up a storm and throwing things only to realize that i am an idiot.
