Hello everybody,

I just recently set up my new pc and i been struggling to download games from steam, origin etc... Am getting like 1.1mbps or below and the disk usage is rather high.
I have done everything for steam like changing download region, setting it to no limit etc....still not getting anywhere.

Tried wired and wireless aswell.

Specs
Amd ryzen 9 5950x 16 core
MSI mag thomahawk wifi motherboard
32 gb ram 3200mhz
corsair 850m psu
Hydro cooler fox 240g
4 ssd's - 2x 1tb, 1x 2tb and 1x 128gb
Rtx 3090 24gb
1 disk drive
windows 10 pro 64 bit.
broadband virgin media.

Solution
  1. 7.96mbps
  2. 1.1 mbps and drops 777.30 and picks up at 1.2mbps (goes up and down constantly)
  3. That's on wired
And what speed plan do you pay the ISP for?
Cable, DSL, fiber, other?

Speedtest showing 7.96mbps is almost exactly the same as Steam showing 1.1MBps.

Speedtest.net reports in megabits, Steam reports in megaBytes.
8:1 ratio
Small b vs Big B

We pay £49 month for the 243mbps download speed.
fiber.

Oh so roughly the same i see.
everything else is running smooth on the connection like phones, playstation 4 etc so my folks aren't having any problems on there devices and they get switched off before I play my games.
I know there's no outages as it's been checked fine.

Ok then...THAT is a major problem.

If you're paying for ~250mbps, and only seeing ~8mbps from speedtest.net, you have a problem.

First, try a different ethernet cable to your router.
And do this with no other systems doing anything.

have you tried to reset the modem (power off)? have you called virgin and asked if there is a problem with your connection, they can test it at their end.

edit: sorry, just saw your other post saying it works fine on other devices. has to be something on the desktop end.

just done a quick search linked to your mobo, do you have a program running called cFosSpeed from MSI Dragon Center. if you do, delete that.
