Every software file I download on my desktop running XP Home Edition w/ SP3 and all current updates will not install because it is corrupt.
If I download the file on another pc and put it on a thumb drive it will install w/o error through XP Home Edt.
I have tested my 2GB of RAM and it's OK as is my new Seagate 1 TB HDD.
:(

Solution
Nvidia's IDE and Lan drivers have been know to cause problems in the past. Don't install them and just use the Windows drivers and all will be fine or just install the nvidia lan driver, but not the network manager.

If you are using IE8, try a different browser for downloads. I had this happen, although it was on certain web sites.

I rolled back to Explorer 6 and have confirmed the same results.
I downloaded software files and they are still corrupt.
I am going to try changing my cat5 router cable and see if that changes anything.

Changed Cat5 router cable.
Tried another software download with the same results.
The download is completed but when it's opened it will not install.
Message says downloaded file is corrupt.

Problem solved!
I removed a program called Nvidia NetworkAccessManager, rebooted the pc.
Downloaded a software program and successfully installed the program.
I don't know what the Nvidia program did but it was the root of the problem.

You are correct.
This program was added accidently when I did a clean install of xp after experiencing a hdd failure.
It was part of the drivers on the motherboard setup disc.
Won't make that mistake again!
