So, I was reading a review of a asus rog strix gtx 1060 6gb and they said great card for $200 over here in England that card is currently £290. So I was just wondering why on earth is this and also the msi gaming x version of the card so inflated price wise. If anyone could also predict if/when the prices might stabilise as I'm currently in the market for one of these two cards .

1060 Strix is one of the most expensive 1060 out there. official MSRP is around $315-$320 being one of the most expensive after market model that even exceed the pricing of FE model. also 1060 6GB base MSRP is $250 not $200. that is base MSRP for the 3GB model. if you really don't mind about look i suggest you to get what ever 1060 you can get...
They've been inflated since launch - the MSRP on all the GTX 10 series, and RX 460/470/480 have been exceeded since day 1.
A lot of the cards were under-supplied at launch, so that drove some prices up (as availability was extremely limited), but there's really no justifiable reason today.

I'm not aware of any issues with manufacturing etc, so I'd have to guess that it's down to simple basic supply & demand. People are paying the inflated prices, so that's what they're available at.

As far as predicting if/when they're drop/stabilize, it's really anybodies guess.

I don't think that (STRIX 1060) card was ever $200. It started well over $300. July 26th £300/$310 per kitguru, August 5th; $314 per andantech, September 9th; $330 per techpowerup, today: $330 on Amazon and $320 on Newegg.

You're already like $24 cheaper in England than you were in July. You should look at a different GTX 1060, because the MSRP on this one is what is being charged over here pretty much. And if you want $200 price over here then you're looking at the 3GB version unless you found some exceptional deal. Cheapest GTX 1060 6GB have been $230-$240 pretty consistently; whereas the 3GB versions hover from $189-$200.

look at max overclock potential vs the gaming x model. the difference is mere 25mhz but it is $40 cheaper than the gaming x model. the only advantage of gaming x model it was slightly cooler (73c vs 69c) and that 0db feature on the fan....and maybe look.

Thank you so much for sending me this link as the only reason I was going to with the gaming x was overclocking. I'm probally going to go with a 3gb card as the 1070 launched 6 months ago meaning hopefully the new 1170 or whatever it will be called would come out in about 12 months so the 3gb should be fine untill then but thanks nonetheless.
