Why are i7-8700K vs i7-6700K prices so similar?

The i7-8700K is $359-$370 and it was launched in Q4'17
while i7-6700K is $339-$350 and it was launched in Q3'15
Why are the prices not differentiated much more, even though the 8700K was launched more that 2 years after the 6700K? Is there not much difference in performance?

Intel doesn't drop prices for their old CPUs for some reason.

They dont drop the price so people buy the new product and buy the new motherboard. the make more of the newer product and want to sell them.

Or, more cynically, maybe Intel thinks "if we can't get you to buy a new motherboard, then you're going to pay us about as much to upgrade to a faster outdated processor as you would to get the new CPU."
