Why are my graphics bad?

Just installed an AMD XFX Radeon HD 7770 graphics card via HDMI. I made sure to get the most current driver installation, and after I installed this, my graphics quality became very poor. I tried tweaking settings in the catalyst control center, and my resolution got messed up. By this I mean that my resolution maxes out at 1920x1080 and i had to do a lot of adjustments such as overscan and zooming just to see my computer at this res. For the most part, the graphics are really sharp and pixelated, and it is hard to read things on this screen.
My monitor is 60HZ, not sure what else to say about it. My computer's specs are: Intel(R) Pentium (R) Dual E2180 2 ghz, 2gb ram.

Well, it could be a problem with the screen but unlikely.

the weak CPU and small 2 gigs of ram wouldn't be a very good pc for anything modern in terms of graphics

The image is most likely due the HD 7770 1gb not being an optimal choice for 1080p... They can run 1080p, just not very well.. That graphics card is realistically designed to run optimally at 1600x900 not 1920x1080p

for 1080p you want to go 2 gb cards nowadays (more couldn't hurt provided the rest of the card is good as well, don't vouch on a card purely on memory size) And I think it's at that stage to begin thinking about getting a new PC

AMD Catalyst could also be a contributing factor, I've had a few problems with it in the past myself with blotchy pixels. But a new...
