why are my headphones detecting as microphones on windows 8.1

for some reason, my computer (Windows 8.1 Pro) keeps detecting my headphones as microphones. Does anyone know how to fix it?

May we know the model of your laptop same goes with your headphone?
- First, do check if the headphone is connected to the right port.
- Next is to set the default Microphone in Sound Settings.
- Lastly, uninstall/reinstall the Sound card driver from Device Manager.

My laptop model is a Toshiba Satellite C50-B13N laptop, and my headphones Sony MDR-XB450.
