Why Are Steam Downloads So Slow

I recently purchased 2 games off the steam summer sale, my internet has a speed of 60 mb per second and it says it will take a year to download! Is it because of the summer sale?

Probably - the steam server is having a hard time coping.

I downloaded the Metro Redux bundle this morning and the games downloaded at full speed. It could be because the servers are backed up during the peak hours of the day. Try downloading the games overnight.

Big sale going on, it will stress their servers. Also depends on YOUR internet provider and speed. Some games can get pretty huge.

Your best bet is to try at another time. Also, you can try changing your download region but that may not make a difference, with heavy traffic coming from everywhere! Go to Steam->Settings->Downloads. I am downloading Wolfenstein right now (~9PM EST) and it is going--got about 6 / 50 GB down!

Glad you got it sorted out. What could be worse if it was GTA V. Then it would have taken you the rest of your life at that pace. LOL
