Why are the games in my xbox's hard drive not launching?

I recently purchased a hard drive that had games in it, but not that I connected it to my xbox and tried to open them it says cannot launch. Is there something I'm missing?

The disk.

You cannot play games from the hard drive without have the disc in the disk tray.
(Unless you have a modded Xbox 360)
