Why are there so Few Quality Power Supplies?

There are probably 40 brands of power supplies out there, but I (and many others) only recommend a select few brands, and specific power supplies from those brands. Seasonic, EVGA B2 and G2, some XFX and Antec. Those get recommended as the quality units.

How come other brands don't make quality power supplies?

I think that they know the PSUs is the most underrated part of a pc. Plus, there aren't many regulations on how to make a good quality Psu and a lot of firms take advantage of that.
That is my opinion tho, maybe there's another reason.

Nor is there a good standard by which people who don't know much about how power supplies work can compare them. For instance, on processors we have frequency, number of cores, instructions per clock. But on power supplies you already have to be educated on the many complex components, which can take a good amount of time and experience to learn.

I see what you mean. They know that the majority of people don't bother looking at if the PSU is quality, so they decide to save the money and make their units low quality. There needs to be some organization which rates power supplies with a numerical value so non-PSU-savvy people can understand and make a good decision for a quality power supply.

I could see a PSU case going to court. When a PSU blows, it releases sparks of electricity and people could definitely sue if they got injured by the spark.

Yeah, I know. I believe choosing the right PSU is the most difficult part of buying computer components in my opinion. If you want I good PSUs you really need to dig into it.
I agree, there should be an organization rating PSUs with a numerical value and not only saying like ''hey look, we tested this, so you should buy this one instead of this one because we say so''
