Why can i download from wired pc but not wireless

i have a pc running xp wired to my modem. i have another running windows 7 that connects wireless to the router. i can connect to the internet from the wireless w7 pc but as soon as i try to stream or download i lose connectivity. do you kinow why this is?

Sounds like there is something interfering with the wireless signal, try changing the wireless channel on the router.

thanks. i'll check.could it be that virgin are slowing my bandwidth?
