Why cant I get sound out of my TV when I plug in my computer

I am trying to watch a movie on my lap top on my TV. I am using an HDMI cable a can see the picture but no sound out of my TV. What do I need to do?

What video card do you have and does it support sound over the HDMI connection ? (older cards will only have video signals sent through the HDMI out of the video card)

Read the laptop's manual, as JDFan said, your HDMI output is probably only for video.
