Question Why can't I open some files after I transferred it? How do I fix it?

Hi!

I transferred some word documents from one laptop to another, but to my surprise, it would not let me open them. The pop up said that "The drive or network connection that the shortcut 'thefilename.lnk' refers to is unavailable. Make sure that the disk is properly inserted or the network resources is available, and then try again'. So I plugged in the USB and tried to open it from there, but it still wouldn't work. also, I deleted the file in the original laptop where it was originated from. I am no where near knowledgable about computers so I need some help XD Thanks for reading!

sound like you copy a shortcut/link to the real file
go back to the original laptop and search for it

'thefilename.lnk'

the ".lnk" means you just transferred the shortcut. Not the actual Word file.

also, I deleted the file in the original laptop where it was originated from.

Your only hope is the Recycle bin on the original laptop.

The word "backup" springs to mind -- which you evidently don't bother with.

You copied a link, not the file.
If you deleted it from the original and you don't see them in the recycle bin, you will need to use software to try and recover the deleted files.
I hear the software RECUVA is quite good and free.
