Why can't I print b/w in colour mode?

The black cartridge in my LexMark Z23 has reached an empty state. As I
have no replacement to hand, I thought I'd simply print this my page
of text using colour mode. But, whatever program I use, I cannot
achieve this.

I have removed the b/w catridge and I've confirmed that the colour
cartridge is OK by printing a samll sample in PaintShop Pro. But after
using the various dialogs, including Printer Properties, to specify
Colour, the printer goes through the motions but NOTHING is printed!

Any suggestions as to what's happening here please?

Its probably because it knows the text is black so will only use the black
ink which is empty, try changing the text colour to dark blue.

And print again, progressively making the text color a bit lighter blue. The
closer you get the text color (as you choose the color in the software) to
the color of the blue ink in the cartridge, the less other (ie, black) inks
are being printed also, and therefore will be printing most color inks of a
tint other than black.

Good luck,

The printer driver knows that the text must use the colour black. You would
have to fool the driver somehow. I would prefer to spend the few dollars for
a new cartridge and do it right.
