Why can't I run 3840 x 2160 with 60hz?

I have a dell up2414q with a msi r9 270. In the AMD catalyst Control Center I can select the 4k resolution but at 30hz refresh rate. When I select 60hz it doesn't even allow me to select any desktop resolutions at all but rather 720p, 1080p, etc.

I'm using the displayport also so not sure where I went wrong...

From Dell

"In order to display the 3840x2160 at 60 Hz. native resolution, please ensure the graphics card and its drivers used on the PC/Laptop is capable of supporting up to 3840x2160 at 60 Hz. resolution. All of the UP2414Q ports (DP, Mini-DP and HDMI) can support 3840x2160 resolution. The PC/Laptop must be HDMI 1.4 compliant"

From MSI

"HDMI Connectors 1 (version 1.4a)
Max Resolution: 3840x2160 @30 Hz-30bpp
4096x2160 @24 Hz-24bpp

DisplayPort 1 (version 1.2)
Max Resolution: 4096x2160 @ 50 Hz"

So according to MSI, their card will only do 30hz on HDMI, but you might hit it with Display port. What type of connection are you using?

I'm on a mini displayport. I should be able to do 4k resolution at at least 50hz but it won't let select beyond 30hz.

Solved! I'm such a noob. If anyone has this monitor then read this http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/dell-up2414q-monitor-review,3781-3.html
