Why can't my Asus blu-ray burner play blu rays?

I got a blu ray burner for my desktop and after using it for a while, some of the burner program i was using to burnt discs went haywire and now i can't play blu rays but dvds are still fine. I've been meaning to fix this but havent gotten around to fix it and precious attempts were unsuccesful. Does any one know what to do?

What software do you use to play blu-rays?

VLC Media player. It played fine until a point but i dont see why that would matter. For when i put a blu ray in it doesn't even seem to register that there is a disc in the unit.

VLC is not licensed by One Blue play Blu-rays.
