Here's my userbenchmark off a fresh boot.
Absolutely disgusting.

It was always kinda bad, but never this bad. I used to be able to game a little bit on it
It's kinda old, but the way GPUs are now, it would be great to work.

I am open to trying to fix it, but I don't even know where to begin.

Any idea?
Thanks

Edit: Drivers updated, power settings changed

Try this.
Boot the pc and let it sit for 5 mins.
Run UBM and post a link.

As has been mentioned you need to check those temps

So I unplugged it from a power strip, and plugged it directly into the wall and got great results

Does that makes sense?
Or did I tinker with some random setting...
try replugging it into the power strip, and see if you get bad benches again. Power strips these days are made very cheaply, so they don't usually yield the best results.

CPU and GPU were right around 60 C. I've got it on a plastic fan stand.

At least the hard drive was better, but I was planning to switch to SSD anyways if the laptop is not shot

Not sure if it's relevant, but CPU was running at 0.8 Ghz the whole time
There is some reason why your cpu is running at such a slow speed.
Are you running with the power cord connected or off the battery?

I don't know what bios options HP gives you but browse through the bios and see if anything jumps at you.

As a wag unplug from power, remove the battery, remove the bios battery.
Take it to the store and buy a new one.
Replace bios battery and test.
