Why do files In may External hard drive show in linux but not inn windows

As a flaming guess, the drive was formatted in Linux in a format that Windows does not understand. If this is the case, you can probably download Windows software that will be able to read the filesystem.

If you look in /etc/mnttab, the entry for that filesysytem will show how it is formatted. Let us know what it says.
