Question Why do games freeze for me?

My PC has a dedicated (GTX 950) and integrated (Radeon Vega 8 Graphics Ryzen 3 2200G).

When I don't dedicate 2GB of VRAM to the iGPU, games end up freezing. The less dedicated VRAM the more likely my games freeze. If I turn off the iGPU it freezes once you load into a map. My HDMI is in the GTX 950

No. I don't actually want to use the Vega 8 but even when using the 950 if I don't dedicate 2GB of VRAM to the Vega 8 the games do not work.

8GB DDR4 2400mhz
AB350M GAMING 3

Set windows power plan to high performance.
Download the most recent driver files for your 950, but do not install it yet.
Download DDU(https://www.wagnardsoft.com/) and disconnect your internet connection, whether ethernet or wireless
Run DDU - requires safe mode
After that's done and the PC restarted, go ahead and install the gpu driver while still disconnected - you can reconnect after the install is finished.

Normally, the motherboard automatically switches to the discreet graphics once it's installed.
Go back into bios, click on chipset, and set integrated graphics to [disabled], if it isn't already, and see if that works.


Are you using 1 or 2 ram sticks?
Ryzen 1xxx & 2xxx cpus are sensitive to ram speed, even more-so for the Vega 8/10 igpus.
2400mhz is really slow, and if you're also just using 1 ram stick, which cuts memory bandwith in half, performance is even worse...
But that should only be causing games to run poorly, freezing is usually software/driver related.

I'm using 1 stick of RAM. I have tried turning off the integrated gpu but unfortunately encountered the same results. Do you think overclocking the RAM or giving it more voltage might help?

Two or three months ago, in hopes it would fix the issue.

Windows has been reinstalled, gpu drivers reinstalled after running DDU, all motherboard drivers up to date... this would've fixed most software issues.

What's the brand of the ram you're using, and which slot is it currently in?

It is QUMOX Ram. I bought it during when RAM prices were at their highest unfortunately. I have tried all RAM slots and currently the stick resides in slot 1.

This might actually be the cause of the freezes. That brand might not be compatible with your mobo: http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList/Memory/mb_memory_ga-ab350m-gaming3_raven.pdf
That list displays ram kits tested and certified to work by the motherboard manufacturer. It doesn't completely rule out the compatibility of your current ram - they can only test so many.
But there's a way to find out.

https://www.memtest86.com/ (you will need a spare usb drive of at least 512MB)
Download memtest and follow the instructions for creating a usb bootable drive. Make sure the usb drive is selected for writing the image, as the program will wipe all data on the selected drive.
Once that's all done, and you have it up and running, let it run for 4 or 5 passes(gonna take awhile) - or heck, let it run overnight while you sleep it off.
If no errors turn up, the ram is good. If not, it should be replaced.
