Why do i get different cpu temps in different softwares?

Title says it all. I have corsairs cue app and nzxt cam app ( as i have 1 of each product of the 2 companies) and im getting 2 different temps for my cpu. Corsair is lower and saying 29.4 and nzxt cam is saying 34 (nzxt one keeps jumping)

How do I know for sure?

What processor? Different softwares have different methods of measuring temperatures, measure different locations, etc.

You can download HWinfo and see what it says.
Generally speaking, one software could be measuring core temps, while the other is measuring the temps at the IHS, or something similar.

Wait am i looking at here? The core max ? Is 40c okay for idle? I dont think it is for what i have. Like i have the h1150 pro by corsair and the cpu isn't even overclocked

Idle temps mean nothing, what are the temps under load? The 8700k has some thermal issues with the pasted used between the CPU and the heatspreader, so its common to see high temps.

What could i do to get temps under load ?? They seem to be about 50-60 c when playing fortnite. Just as long as i know its normal ill close the window and wont look at temps again

That is one way to check load temps, go about your daily routine and watch temps, so in your case playing games.
You can run a stress test in order to max out your temps, but realistically you wont see those kinds of loads.

50-60C is fairly good under load.

Just havent done anything other than playing fortnite and editing And again think max i saw was maybe 65c can't remember. Only problem that i see is sometimes on idle it jumps up to 50 then drops to 40 and then back to 30 but changes very frequently. Is this okay?

Yeah, that typically does not point to any issues.
As long as you dont see or pass around 80C you dont need to worry.

Intel burn test, older versions of prime95 (usually too harsh for normal use), or some other benchmarks of your choosing.
