Why do I have a hub and multiple switches?

I'm new here and I'm really confused.
I have broadband and I looked in Network and Sharing Center and I noticed one hub and multiple switches. Is this normal?
My PC, modem, router, and wireless printer are in my bedroom and I have another PC in the house along with my sons Xbox.

Could be a number of things. Distance and number of outlets are two that come to mind. Have you asked the ISP or whoever installed it?

I contacted my IPS and was told by 2 people "A hub, switch and router are all the same thing. They allow you to connect multiple devices to the network."

So I copied a post from this forum explaining the difference between them.

They just keep asking if I am problems with my service and I don't.

I have never had a hub on my network before and I am wondering where it came from.
