why do i have multiple partitions in my :C drive?

i installed windows 8.1 and upgraded to windows 10 a while back. but my hard drive has multiple partitons and i cant format them or delete them. could this maybe be the windows boot manager? or some important windows file hiding in there or something?

If you go into Storage Manager, one of the partition is labeled RECOVERY, and less than 100MB, leave it alone.

But....Open Disk Management
On the drive in question, from left to right, what are the partitions and their labels and sizes?
