My new Acer Aspire VN7-592G arrived today. My first trouble is often when I minimize something like Chrome that is maximized, I get an error message saying "Intel HD Graphics drivers for Windows(R) stopped responding and has recovered".... Does anyone have a fix for that?

Secondly, I noticed in my device manager that I have a NVIDIA GTX 960M and also an Intel(R) HD Graphics 530....Why do I have two different video card drivers?

Solution

1. Did you turn off WUs ability to install what it wants instead of what you want. You can install the HW drivers you want 100 times, that still won't stop WU from installing one it thinks you should be using.

2. Did you uninstall the both the old drivers before installing the new ?

3. Were the drivers obtained from Acer and nVidia web sites ...

Be aware that laptop manufacturers often have their own customized drivers.

Do I want two? If I somehow disabled the Intel one, would it solve my other problem?

Well there should be no harm disabling Intel GPU. Make sure you are using NVIDIA gpu at the moment

That would be extremely **unwise** to disable the iGPU on a laptop... unless of course you never used it as a portable machine and you didn't mind carrying around the power brick and always being glued to an outlet. Read up on Optimus which basically selects either GPU automatically depending on need versus battery life.

As for your problem:

1. Disconnect ethernet cable or turn off router so no internet access

2. Turn off Windows ability to install Hardware drivers

3. Uninstall all video drivers

4. Shut down and connect ethernet cable or restart router

5. Install Intel Grahpics Driver from Acer web site

6. Install nVidia drivers from here:

7. Install GeForce Experience

Why from the ACER website? Wouldnt it make more sense to find the newest one from the Intel site?
