Question Why do old opteron G34 platforms lose quad channel over time?

I am using windows 10 64 and not windows 7. I have the SuperMicro H8DG6-F dual cpu Opteron 6128 8 cores. I have tried removing all the ram and reseating, which did help just once, and this board ran quad but it was during using windows 7 64. I do not have the instalation software put in and am using GTX 980 card not a radeon as the board is AMD VGA and not very good for graphics. I am wondering what happened when the quad went down to dual channel. It is still a very great motherboard/computer for the low cost and compared to my DDR4 asus x299, and I like having a backup.

OS: include version for Windows 10.

Also, can you check and see which BIOS version you're currently on and if you have BIOS updates pending?
