Hello,
I've been having problem with DaVinci Resolve for quite some time. I reached out to Blackmagic and got no reponse. I posted my problem there on their forum and answers didn't help me at all.
You can take a look at our conversations here: Forum Thread (akara211 = me)
I installed Premiere Pro after not using it for years after moving to Resolve in hope it would work. The moment i opened Premiere Pro, it crashed.
Premiere Pro atleast crashed and gave me crash message, on the other hand, Resolve just won't open. This is what it says in task manager: Link to the Task Manager screenshot
I've tried this:
  • reinstalling Resolve (like 6-7 times)
  • updating Resolve (from v16 to v18, still nothing)
  • reinstalling my graphic drivers thru geforce experience
  • entering safe mode, using DDU, getting back to normal mode (from this thread)
  • waiting
  • every single troubleshooting option there is online

Specs:
DaVinci Resolve 18.0.4, Free version
Windows 10 Pro
i3-7100
16gb
gtx1050Ti Aero, GeForce Game Ready Driver v526.47
cache folder is on C: (970Evo SSD, 500GB)

REMINDER: everything worked okay until a month ago, it worked for years!

Also look in Reliability History and Event Viewer. Either one or both tools may be capturing some crash related errors , warnings, or even informational events.

Reliability History is user friendly and the time line presentation can often prove helpful. Look for something captured "a month ago" when the problems began. Also check Update History for some failed or problem update about a month ago.

Event Viewer requires more time and effort.

PSU is indeed a likely suspect. Increasing numbers of errors and varying errors would be another indication of power/PSU problems.

Hi,
I dunno if there's anything relevant here on this scr scr

Need more information: How many of those errors are there?

What is that "Freemaker" Service? Is that something you installed or otherwise no about?

What is the English meaning of "Prestanak Rada"? Google translator provided "Termination of Work" (Croatian).

Likely the equivalent of "Windows unexpectedly shutdown".....

Capture the time line and post that image. Select a couple of representative days with multiple errors, warnings, etc.

Show the details section for those days.

The only errors I'm getting are for this freemake something and 1 for Nvidia Here's Nvidia crash from yesterday (it may be when I used DDU to deinstall GPU drivers, it says invalid path in the detailed)
Here's some Windows crash (I see there are every once in a while these Windows crashes) Unexpected shutdown (neočekivano zatvaranje)
There's another Windows crash Hardware issue (hardverska pogreška)
These are crashes that occure every once in a while, I have lots of crashes this week since I installed Cities Skylines which tend to crash my chrome and other stuff, aswell as it crashes itself sometimes.

Prestanak rada means yes, Termination of Work or Stopped working
27.11.
28.11.
2.12.
4.12.
8.12.
12.12.

I have nothing before 18th of November and the problems began somewhere around 7th of November. (I noticed Premiere crashes just like 1-2 weeks ago)

I have no idea what Freemake Service is.
Google says
FreemakeUtilsService.exe is an executable exe file which belongs to the Freemake Improver process which comes along with the Freemake Improver Software developed by Freemake software developer.

It looks like you are experiencing a variety of crashes on your computer, including ones related to the Nvidia graphics driver, Windows, and possibly the Freemake software. It's also possible that the crashes you are experiencing may be related to the Cities Skylines game you installed recently.

To troubleshoot these issues, there are a few steps you can try:
  1. Make sure that your computer meets the minimum system requirements for running the Cities Skylines game and any other software you are using.
  2. Check for any updates for the game or software that you are using, as well as your graphics driver and operating system. Installing updates can sometimes fix issues with stability.
  3. Try running a system scan with your antivirus software to make sure that your computer is not infected with malware, which can cause stability issues.
  4. If you recently uninstalled the Nvidia graphics driver using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller), try reinstalling the latest driver from the Nvidia website to see if that helps.
  5. Try running the game and other software in compatibility mode or with reduced graphics settings to see if that helps improve stability.
  6. If you continue to experience crashes, it may be helpful to gather more information about the crashes, such as the error messages and crash logs. You can try looking in the Event Viewer on your computer to see if there are any relevant error messages or warnings. You can also try looking in the game's logs or the software's logs to see if there is any additional information about the crashes.
I hope these suggestions help!

And I will add the suggestion to initially remove any unneeded or unrecognized programs from Task Manager > Startup.

For example, Freemake if it is indeed being launched at startup. It (and other apps) could also be being launched/trliggered via Task Scheduler.

Uninstall games that cause problems. Objective being to get the system stable and then add back apps etc. one at a time to determine if any given app is indded the problem.

Simpify the system to determine if the problems stop or at least decrease in some manner.

Keep notes, change only one thing at a time, and allow time between changes.

Another tool to help is Process Explorer (Microsoft, free).

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/process-explorer

Knowing what all is running and why it is running is important. Unexpected or unknow apps etc. are potential culprits.

Also, forgo any automated tools for installing or uninstalling software apps excluding manufacturer provided uninstallers. But even then keep an eye on things.

The uninstallers can and do leave things behind.

I tried using Process Explorer. I opened Resolve. What's odd is that when I click on Resolve on task bar, it appears in the App with its ordinary icon. Then, when the open as administrator window opens up, Resolve becomes red in the app and dissapears, and when I click Yes, it appears again but without any icon at all. Then I right-clicked on it and went on "Restart" and this window popped out:

Have you been able to try the following from the November 29th post in the forum link you provided?

= = = =

Somehow, all your config related files have been corrupted.

Your config.dat and .config.data related files are bad.

Open File Explorer Options, and on the View tab, enable "Show hidden files, folders and drives".

Also unselect "Hide extensions for known file types".

Then in File Explorer, navigate to this folder:

C:\Users\fersi\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Preferences

Delete the config.dat, config.dat.bak, .config.data and .config.data.bak files.

Now Resolve should start.

It will recreate the config files with the default starting info. If you had any Preferences modifications made, be sure to reapply those after starting.

If Resolve still doesn't start, send a new Resolve log file.

= = =

Failing that, then reinstall Resolve. You are using the free version - correct?

I tried that option. Although, I had only config.dat file in the folder given. It may be because I reinstalled davinci before I was given this troubleshooting option and other files can't spawn before I actually use Resolve.
I'm using free version, yes.
