Why do WD use bridge encryption on their external drives?

Solution
Hi there mobyaki,

Some of the WD devices feature hardware encryption due to data security reasons and user's safety. Furthermore, it goes along with password protection. You can choose whether you want to set one or not.

Western Digital offers external drives that have no hardware encryption as well. For example, you can take a look at WD Elements: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=hB2Ua7
