Why do you need a registration code every time you install..

I just dont understand why u need that stupid code to install Sim City 4
Deluxe! I recently uninstalled the game due to previous problems I've had
with the game shutting down on me and the game not opening back up as if
it were restricting me to play the game anymore. Now I have recovered both
of the discs for re-installation but I still have one little thing
missing. Once I recovered the 2 discs I also discovered someone had thrown
away the CD case which in fact has the so-called registration code on the
back. And now I have to go back to the store and buy a whole new Sim City
4 Deluxe game which will cost me a good $39.95. Could someone please tell
me why you need a friggin code to install the stupid thing, and is it
possible for me to recieve a new one???

They are piracy protection, although they don't really stop pirates for too
long. You can contact EA and as long as you can prove ownership they will
probably give you a new CD key.

If you still have the original disks you should be able to get Maxis to
either replace them for a small fee (with a new code) or recover the old
code for you. Also, I think (and I don't know this because I haven't tried)
that if you registered at the Maxis site when you installed the game, that
you can recover your registration code from there. I don't KNOW this
though - I might be wrong - but you can do this with some games. Anyway,
some avenues to follow up before you expend a lot of money on buying a new
copy of the game, hmm? I never throw any documentation away myself.

More to the point, why should I have to put the damn disc in
the drive every time I want to play the game. That sux!

I somehow got the guy on the phone to give me a code (I was tripping). It did not work. Thank you again!! I was on hold (again) for about 45 minutes when I found this. I never thought I would find a # online that would work.
