Why does increased resolution lead to increased CPU temp

Finally got my TV to 1:1 so I changed my resolution to 1920x1080. Played Skyrim for maybe 10 minutes and checked the cpu temp just for fun. My CPU temp went from ~44 deg C after this kind before I changed resolution to about 63 deg.

Firstly, why does the increased resolution put such a huge load on my CPU versus my GPU (which I haven't checked the temp on because I don't know how)?

Secondly, why does 300K pixels out of 2 million make such a huge impact on the amount of work my computer has to do to keep up? It sounds like one of those 90% effort for the last 10% of performance type things. Is it even worth it?

The distance I can see increases with resolution? This is worth experimenting with. If only my arrows shot farther...

do n't swear.
The higher res means more objects can be seen, or in finer detail, either will increase the workload, especially so because it can allow longer draw distances.
For checking the GPU temperatures, and other things, GPU-Z is a great friend 😉.
