Question Why does my 120hz monitor cause black screens unless capped to 60hz?

To be clear, I think it only happens when my fps drops during intense gaming and nothing crashes. It black screens for a few seconds and comes back.

What GPU?

What's your GPU make and model? Does it happen when the GPU gets hot? Have you tried monitoring the temps during gaming? A good program for that is MSI Afterburner (scroll down and click Download). If temp is an issue, you might want to look at some options to get some better airflow in your case. First check that your fans are ok. If it's an old GPU, taking it apart and reapplying thermal paste could work (don't try unless you're certain you're doing it right). And then, if that won't work, then it might be time for a new GPU.

It could also be something that I don't know about. Try the above first.
