Why does my CPU seem to be slow?

I bought a 6 core AMD FX 6300 Black Edition 3.5GHz, and I am overclocking it to 4.1GHz, but it doesn't seem to give me any noticable results. I do mostly gaming on my PC. Even with games where the specs say that only 3.5GHz are needed for recommended settings, I am still lagging. Can anyone shed some light on this?

What motherboard do you have? What CPU cooling do you have? What are your temps? How are you overclocking (multiplier, fsb, or a combo of both)? What is your psu? What RAM do you have? All those things will effect your overclock and performance of your system.

Another thing - is your overclock stable? What stability test did you run and for how long? I've seen unstable overclocks that give worse performance than if the processor were run at stock settings.

Post your specs, chances are that there is some other problem besides the CPU.
