Why does my GPU memory clock run at 2000mhz when the advertised specs is 8000mhz?

I have a XFX Rx480 Black Edition and the advertised memory clock speed is 8000mhz. However, the card is running only at 2000mhz memory clock. Also, MSI Afterburner can only amp it up to 2250mhz. How can I make it run at 8000mhz as advertised?

Because the advertised figure is the effective clock speed while the figure you typically see in software is the clock cycle.

It's all marketing in the end really, why advertise your 2000MHz memory when you can advertise your 8000MHz memory?

This is correct, it is the way the application reads the memory due to memory bandwidth. 2000mhz x4 = 8000mhz. On a RX580 4Gb with memory running at 7000mhz GPU-Z or MSI Afterburner will show 1750mhz. If you bump up the memory speeds in MSI to 2250mhz you are effectively trying to OC your GPU memory to 9000mhz.
