Why does my monitor turns off when i plug my fan into my power strip?

Just as the title says, everytime i connect my fan into the same power strip as my monitor, my monitor turns off for half a sec and comes back again, it seems to happen only when i plug my fan, what is this? could it damage my monitor? thanks

the fan motor is pulling more power whe nit starts then the strip can give it. you can a have a fire on the strip if it gets to hot from the load pulled from the fan. or you can burn out the monitor when the power dips.
